Join the Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City!

Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City educate the public on gardening topics, answer gardening questions, and are proud contributors in their community.  Some of the programs Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City are involved in are Hotline, Speakers Bureau, Garden Tour, Demonstration garden plots, Special Events, and Community Projects, which include: Ronald McDonald House, Watkins Woolen Mill historic heirloom garden, Martha LaFitte Thompson Nature Sanctuary, Harvesters, and much, much more.   Application for the next class is due on June 9.  Additional Information.

Jewell & Lightburne Historic Districts

Tour meets at the Clay County Historical Museum, 14 N. Main St. Led by historian Chris Harris. This tour is part of explore Liberty's Heritage walking tour program. All guided tours are free and open to the public.  Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. For more information call 816-439-4537.

Pony Express National "Pumkinfest"

A free family arts festival with special emphasis on children.  The festival will celebrate its 13th year in 2008 and since 1996 has grown to several entertainment stages,  many children's rides and games, children's and family costume parade, a large variety of food and beverages and, of course, the "Great Pumpkin Mountain!"  The mountain contains over 800 carved and lighted pumpkins on a 75' -long and 27'-high scaffold.  Times:  Friday, October 10 -- 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.  Great Pumpkin Mountain lighting:  Friday, October 10, 8 p.m.  Parade:  Saturday, October 12, 11 a.m.

Harvest Festival at Shoal Creek Living History Museum
Are you yearning for a simpler time? Join us for an old fashioned County Fair. Bring your baked goods, sewing, handcrafts for judging or participate in the buffalo chip throwing or watermelon spitting contests!  $3 per person, 5 and under free.
