The Native American Heritage Museum State Historic Site is administered by the Kansas Historical Society. Located near Highland, Kansas, the museum documents the history of Native Americans as they were moved west from their homelands.

In 1835 a Presbyterian Mission to Iowa Indians was established nine miles south of present-day St. Joseph, Mo. By the fall of 1837 the United States had negotiated treaties with the Iowas, Sacs and Foxes, moving them west of the Missouri River. The Mission moved with them providing schooling to the tribes until 1863. Learn more about this Mission at www.kshs.org
