Veteran Honored at Weston, Missouri
Article and photo

Gene Raney was overcome as the West
Platte student body and more than 60 community members stood and
cheered after he was presented with a Vietnam Veteran’s Medal,
Medallion and Certificate from the State of Missouri. The honors are
available to Vietnam Veterans, and are either sent to their homes,
which is what Mr. Raney expected, or given out in a public ceremony,
which is what his wife, Marlene (next to Gene) arranged as a
surprise.
The Veteran’s Day ceremony was put on by the American Legion Post 501 with
considerable participation by West Platte students in the band and
choirs.

WWII
Veteran shares stories
Major
William Steinbrecher brought home more than memories from his days
serving in General Patton's headquarters in World War II. While
celebrating VE Day in Paris he met a young French lady who became his
wife a year later.
After leaving the Army Air Corps in 1945, Major Steinbrecher attended dental school at Northwestern
University in Chicago. Following graduation from dental school
in 1949, he served in the Army through the Korean War.
Major Steinbrecher, who now lives in
Kansas City with his son, enjoyed the Veterans Day buffett at Hy-Vee.
