Hy-Vee
provides free breakfast
to Veterans

One of many cards prepared by local
elementary students and passed out to each Veteran at breakfast.
Remaining cards were delivered to the VA Hospital
by store
employees.
Hy-Vee honored America’s
veterans on Veterans Day with a free breakfast in appreciation of
their service to the country.
The breakfast provided a time of fellowship, sharing and remembering
those who served and continue to serve, said Jon Wendel, vice
president of marketing. “We hope this small token of appreciation will
convey our deep appreciation for the sacrifices the men and women of
our armed forces make to defend our freedom.”
According to Deb Huber,
Kitchen Manager at the Barry Road Hy-Vee, "This program began in Kansas
City a number of years ago and is now celebrated in all Hy-Vee stores
with a food service department."
The buffet was
complimentary for veterans, but open to their families and others at a
small cost.

Hy-Vee, Inc. is an employee-owned corporation operating 224 retail
stores in seven Midwestern states. For 2007 the company recorded total
sales of $5.6 billion, ranking it among the top 30 supermarket chains
and the top 50 private companies in the United States.
