Accreditation is a rigorous process that requires a review of all aspects of a museum’s operation. To earn accreditation, the St. Joseph Museums first conducted a year of self-study, as all museums that apply or reapply are required to do. Of the 17,500 museums in the United States only 1,000 are accredited. This means that the St. Joseph Museums is in the top six percent of museums recognized for this honor.
