Winter trout fishing is available again in St. Joseph, and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) also is offering a free fly fishing class to help newcomers learn how to catch trout. Register for class by November 5.

Special guest Mary Eisenhower, granddaughter of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, is slated to speak at the opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. to begin the day. Eisenhower is the Chairman Emeritus of People to People International (PTPI), founded in 1956 by the President and headquartered in Kansas City, MO.

The color change starts earliest in northern Missouri and moves southward across the state. The peak of fall color in Missouri is usually around mid-October. This is when maples, ashes, oaks, and hickories are at the height of their fall display. Normally by late October, the colors are fading and the leaves start to drop from the trees.
