A 29-foot long cottonwood tree is being transformed into a canoe to be used as a teaching tool and play area at the Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center.

Missouri classes are presented in Kansas City North and Lee's Summit.  Kansas classes are presented in Lawrence, Lenexa, Mission, Olathe, Overland Park, Prairie Village, Topeka and other cities in central Kansas.

The first stocking of two-inch fingerlings went into the lakes last year, and some of those fish are big enough now at four to six inches to start hitting lures and bait. More hybrid stripers were stocked in June.
