National Nurses Week

~ ~ On the battlefields of the American Civil War
~ ~ 20th-century wars in Europe, Asia, and around the globe
~ ~ Everyday care for the ill and aging.

The COVID-19 virus doesn't define nursing. The virus only brings our attention to the sacrifices these women and men make in service to each of us -- every day, all year long. National Nurses Day, first observed in 1954, is celebrated annually. In 1982, May 6 was designated as the annual beginning of National Nurses Week, which ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
